Propipe’s Hottap and Linestop technology represents a significant advancement in the ability to connect or repair hydrocarbon pipelines while they are in operation, without causing leaks. Traditionally, pipeline maintenance or repairs often required shutting down the entire system, resulting in downtime and potential environmental risks. Propipe’s technology enables these critical tasks to be performed on live pipelines, minimizing disruptions and the associated environmental impact. By avoiding the need for shutdowns, the technology helps reduce carbon emissions linked to the restarting and stopping processes.
The Linestop with bypass technique allows pipeline operators to safely isolate a section of a live pipeline while maintaining continuous flow through a temporary bypass line.
First, a hot tap is performed on the pipeline to create access points without interrupting service. Specialized linestop equipment is then installed, and plugging heads are inserted to temporarily block the flow inside the pipeline.
Once the section is isolated, a bypass system is connected between the upstream and downstream points. This ensures that the product continues to flow while maintenance, repair, or modification work is carried out on the isolated section.
After the intervention is completed, the linestop equipment is removed, and the pipeline is restored to its original configuration—without any shutdown.
This method significantly reduces downtime, enhances operational safety, and minimizes environmental impact, making it an essential solution for modern pipeline maintenance.
Propipe, together with its local Libyan partner SGGP (Sirt Gulf for Gas Projects), has successfully completed a 12” hot tap operation on a live 34” gas export pipeline in Libya.

Prior to release for shipment, the equipment successfully completed Propipe’s manufacturing, inspection and quality-control procedures.
