Hot tapping, or pressure tapping, is the method of connecting to existing pipe or pressure vessels without the interruption of service or emptying that section of pipe or vessel. This means that a pipe or tank can continue to be in operation whilst maintenance or modifications are being done to it. The process is also used to drain off pressurised casing fluids.
Hot tapping is also the first procedure in line stopping, where a cutter is used to make an opening in the pipe, so a line plugging head can be inserted.

The LineStop heads or Pivots are used, after hottap operation, as a mechanical stoppers. They are introduced by an actuator to stop the flow in the line. They should be manufactured very close to the ID of pipeline.

Propipe, together with its local Libyan partner SGGP (Sirt Gulf for Gas Projects), has successfully completed a 12” hot tap operation on a live 34” gas export pipeline in Libya.
Propipe has successfully completed the delivery of a comprehensive package of Hot Tap and Line Stop equipment to a pipeline contractor in Eastern Europe, providing the company with the capability to perform pipeline intervention operations on pipelines up to 42″.
Propipe has successfully completed the manufacturing and final inspection of a new set of 20″ Class 300 3-Way Fittings and 20″ Class 300 Line Stop Fittings, now ready for delivery to a major pipeline operator in Eastern Europe.
The fittings have been engineered and manufactured for pipeline intervention operations, providing the reliability and performance required for hot tapping and line stopping applications on high-pressure pipeline systems.
The scope of supply includes both 3-Way Fittings and Line Stop Fittings in 20″ Class 300, manufactured in accordance with the project specifications and applicable industry standards. Prior to release for shipment, the equipment successfully completed Propipe’s manufacturing, inspection and quality-control procedures.
