  • Pig Receivers, on the other hand, are equipped with a larger outlet door for safe removal of the pig after it exits the pipeline and often include a drain and vent system to release pressure and remove residual fluids before opening.

What Is the Difference Between Pig Launcher and Receiver?

  • Inspection pigs, often called “intelligent” or “smart pigs,” are equipped with sensors and instruments that assess pipeline integrity and geometry. They can detect corrosion, metal loss, dents, or deformations — providing critical data for maintenance planning and safety assurance.

How Does the Process Work?

  1. The pig is inserted into the launcher, and the closure is sealed.
  2. The pipeline pressure or product flow pushes the pig through the line.
  3. As it moves, the pig cleans or inspects the interior of the pipeline.
  4. At the end of the run, the pig enters the receiver, where the system is depressurized, and the pig is safely removed.
